#TalkAwayTheDark Campaign Showcased in May

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is showcasing its #TalkAwayTheDark campaign in May. The message of the campaign is that open and honest conversation about suicide brings the topic out of the shadows and can save a life. As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, AFSP will highlight the campaign’s work in educating people on:
  • How to recognize suicide warning signs.
  • What the risk factors for suicide are.
  • How to have effective conversations about mental health and suicide.

The newly updated Talk Away the Dark website includes a number of resources and practical guidance. One such resource is a 90-second film illustrating common risk factors for suicide. The film follows a father and daughter over several months, with the daughter confronting her father about the thoughts that plague him.

The updated website also includes graphics for social media and online meetings, personal stories, conversation guides, videos and virtual events.
