Methodist Children’s Behavioral Hospital – Maumelle is a 60-bed facility offering both acute (short-term) and subacute (longer-term) inpatient treatment. Serving children and adolescents ages 3 to 17, this hospital offers the most intensive level of care in our continuum.

Acute Program​

Designed for children and teens in immediate crisis who pose a danger to themselves or others, MCBH-Maumelle:

  • Offers psychiatric evaluation and stabilization.
  • Provides 24-hour nursing care and daily access to psychiatrists.
  • Includes individual, family, and group therapy.
  • Goals include safely transitioning children to less-intensive levels of care.
  • Subacute Program: Serves boys ages 4 to 11 with long-term psychiatric, behavioral or emotional issues.
  • Provides extensive therapy in a physician-led, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Focuses on stabilizing behavior and preparing children to return to their families, schools or step-down programs.
  • Staffed by Board Certified child and adolescent psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, therapists, behavioral instructors, and dieticians.
  • Includes art, recreational, and pet therapy.
  • Provides aftercare and follow-up support through our continuum of care including PRTFs, counseling clinics, day treatment school and school-based services.
  • Accepts Medicaid and most private insurance; financial counseling is available.
  • Offers free 24-hour assessments for children in crisis.

Subacute Program

Our subacute inpatient program provides extended care to children with long-standing psychiatric, behavioral and emotional issues. Our program focuses on extensive therapeutic intervention and individualized treatment.

Our subacute program is physician-led and multidisciplinary, addressing the overall medical, psychiatric and academic needs of the child, while still attending to their social and emotional lives.

This program also provides:

  • Compassionate care for depression, emotional difficulties and behavioral needs.
  • Intensive individual, family and group therapy.
  • Skill-building activities.
  • A staff of board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists, therapists, case managers, nurses, teachers and behavioral instructors.
  • Therapeutic activities, outings and passes.
  • Aftercare and follow-up through counseling services, therapeutic day treatment and school-based counseling services.
