Sub-Acute (Residential) Psychiatric Care
Sub-Acute (Residential) Psychiatric Care is an inpatient program of Methodist Behavioral Hospital located in Maumelle. The program provides extended care to children and adolescents ages 5-17 with long-standing emotional and/or behavioral problems. The program focuses on extensive therapeutic intervention and individualized treatment. The program provides daily group therapy, weekly individual therapy, and bi-weekly family therapy. The program is physician-led and multidisciplinary, addressing the overall medical, psychiatric and academic needs of the child, while still attending to their social and emotional lives. Educational services are provided by certified special education teachers.
· Referral sources - outpatient providers, Department of Human Services, probation officers, churches, parents, families
· Capacity - 40 beds
· Length of stay - 2 to 4 months or longer
· Criteria for acceptance - ages 5-17; elective admission requiring prior approval from the Clinical Director; admission is for behaviors and/or emotional issues that cannot be treated in a less restrictive setting.
· Uses the Teaching-Family Model
· Payment sources - primarily Medicaid; some private insurance, including Tricare.
· Aftercare, placement and follow-up - referral for individual therapy, family therapy and/or medication management; specialized treatment, as needed [substance abuse treatment, sexual abuse program, therapeutic day treatment] and Continuum resources
